February 6, 2018- Tuesday-#612 Daily Morning Bible Reading and Meditation- Proverbs 5 KJV
***My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: ***
[1] My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding:
[2] That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge.
[3] For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil:
[4] But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword.
[5] Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell.
[7] Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
[8] Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
[9] Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel:
[15] Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well.
[18] Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
[21] For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord , and he pondereth all his goings.
[22] His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins.
[23] He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
Words to ponder for today:
Wisdom and Understanding
According to Merriam Webster:
The wisdom of Solomon: The Bible
Wisdom:
: ability to discern inner qualities and relationships
: insight
: good sense : judgment
: a wise attitude, belief, or course of action
Understanding:
: a mental grasp : comprehension
: the power of comprehending; especially : the capacity to apprehend general relations of particulars
: the power to make experience intelligible by applying concepts and categories
This Proverbs contains godly father’s counsel,to all of his sons, which seemingly was inspired by his faith in GOD, and appeared to be didactically written through his experience, and warn all men of faith to regard discretion; to abhor involvement or having an illicit affair with a whore which this bible referred to as ‘strange woman’, when he already have married a woman whom GOD has given to him, to whom he has given his name, his home and his love.
In verse 3 were stated the distinguishing characteristic of a strange woman which allures men to fall into temptation;
* the strange women speak irresistible, persuasive, sweet words which is compared to the drops of honeycomb.
* her lips compared to smoothness of an oil, appears to be so beautiful, truthful and convincing in her words; the movements of her lips and her actions melts the heart and strength of a man, giving in to her whispers and whims .
Then are the dangerous results from the error of this sinful choice.
Thus detailedly written in the following passage, once entrapped and hooked with the strange woman:
V. 5, 9-13
*Her true ‘colors’ shall be revealed; her sweet words shall then turns bitter everyday.
*She will cling unto the end like a wormwood which causes the man to be carried away by her thoughts, gives him daily distress and unfocus in all his doings; leaving behind his sense of responsibility and forsaken his commitment even the needs of his family.
* then his wife shall then resort to seek for other man’s love, his children shall desperately look for other’s attention, until they fall into some wrong companions and the once sweet home shall be deranged and destroyed.
* the wealth and goods that he saves for the future shall be flagrantly consumed. Then he will regret all his life and his end will be pitiful and woeful; that at his death, even his children would not even care to come and see him at his burial.
How disastrous life this be if a man would not listen and take heed to hear this wise counsel. This is why the author appears to persistently and incessantly cry out loud this, his warnings:
[7] Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth.
[8] Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house:
What to do now my sons?
“Attend unto my wisdom , and bow thine ear to my understanding.”
Stop, if you are contemplating to give in.
Look at what happen to others who carelessly gave in. It is wise to learn from others’ mistakes’ than from your own experience.
Listen.. it is for your own good if you will take heed to take wise counsel, for the wise man will hear and increase learnings..
Proverbs 1:5 KJV
[5] A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
Be blessed always!
Good day!
Proverbs 5:1-23 KJV
[1] My son, attend unto my wisdom, and bow thine ear to my understanding: [2] That thou mayest regard discretion, and that thy lips may keep knowledge. [3] For the lips of a strange woman drop as an honeycomb, and her mouth is smoother than oil: [4] But her end is bitter as wormwood, sharp as a twoedged sword. [5] Her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell. [6] Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them . [7] Hear me now therefore, O ye children, and depart not from the words of my mouth. [8] Remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: [9] Lest thou give thine honour unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: [10] Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labours be in the house of a stranger; [11] And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, [12] And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; [13] And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! [14] I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly. [15] Drink waters out of thine own cistern, and running waters out of thine own well. [16] Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets. [17] Let them be only thine own, and not strangers' with thee. [18] Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. [19] Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts satisfy thee at all times; and be thou ravished always with her love. [20] And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? [21] For the ways of man are before the eyes of the Lord , and he pondereth all his goings. [22] His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. [23] He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray.
