Vanity of Vanities

March 7, 2018-Wednesday-# 639-Daily Morning Bible Reading and Meditation- Ecclesiastes 1 KJV

*** Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. ***

[1] The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.

[2] Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.

[3] What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?

[4] One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.

[8] All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it : the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.

[9] The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

[10] Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.

[16] I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.

[17] And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.

[18] For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

Words to ponder for today:

Vanity of Vanities

Vanity : something that is vain, empty, or valueless

King James Bible said, traditionally, Ecclesiastes was Solomon’s writings.
The Preacher, The  King of Jerusalem, Son Of David, who have gone far to be the wisest, richest king over all the earth.
He had everything he wanted. Wisdom, understanding and knowledge is with Him. Riches, lands, houses, vineyards, multiple herds, silver, gold and slaves are all accumulated bountifully by Him.
He has everything most people wanted: Power, popularity, prestige, possession and pleasures. He experienced the goodness and madness of life; the fact that he married 700 wives and  have with him 300 concubines is the proof of his eligibilities in every aspect of life, much more with provisional capacity.
He even wrote in verse [16] “I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.”

As the Preacher of the congregation; which is the meaning of Ecclesiastes, this book, he wanted to convey to us something about the fact of life:

*Everything in this life are vanities.
* As there are always new born babes, So is there somebody who died of old ages. Life is just a cycle.
*The eyes could not be satisfied with what it is sees; for it will always wanted to see new things.
*The ears could  not be satisfied with what it hears; for it always wanted to hear new sounds.
* all the rivers runs to the seas, yet the seas and the ocean are never full, even the winds in its course.
* there is no new things under the sun. All the things which amazed us, we considered new, are already been done from the past. All are just a recycles Of the past, improvised and revived.
Then he concluded: [17] And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
[18] For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

This is the fact of life: All the things that we pursue in this life will end to vanity. For after we accomplished our desired goal, then we pursue another, until our strength fails. These all end up to vanity; for when it is our time to die, nothing from what we accomplished and accumulated will we be able to bring with us as we leave this earth.
Contentment is the answer of all this vanities in life. We can have our earnest desire; but we should know when to be satisfied.
And contentment will only be achieve if we  have in our heart JESUS CHRIST.
Apostle Paul wrote in his epistle:
1 Timothy 6:6-10 KJV
[6] But godliness with contentment is great gain.
[7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
[8] And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
[9] But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
[10] For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

All are given one life. All are given choices to whom, how and where we will use this precious life we have.
If we allowed JESUS CHRIST to rule our lives, then we will be able to use this world to train ourselves for heavenly life. But if we will reject Christ to rule our lives, then the world will abusively use our precious lives, that it will consumed all our chances to heavenly life.
Let us all be warned by what this Ecclesiastes have spoken.
Let us all be wise to choose Christ to  rule our lives.
Let us not be worn out by the cares of this world.
That all our wants and desires of heart will prepare us for heavenly life.

May all of us have a pleasant day today!

Ecclesiastes 1:1-18 KJV

[1] The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. [2] Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity. [3] What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun? [4] One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever. [5] The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose. [6] The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits. [7] All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again. [11] There is no remembrance of former things ; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after. [12] I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem. [13] And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith. [14] I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. [15] That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
