Examine Yourselves

102726- Meditational Nuggets from 2 Corinthians 13 KJV

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.”

2 Corinthians 13:1-7 KJV

1 This is the third time I am coming to you. In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.

2 I told you before, and foretell you, as if I were present, the second time; and being absent now I write to them which heretofore have sinned, and to all other, that, if I come again, I will not spare:

3 Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you.

4 For though he was crucified through weakness, yet he liveth by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but we shall live with him by the power of God toward you.

5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

6 But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.

7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.

Examine Yourselves

The last chapter of this 2nd letter of Apostle Paul to the Corinthian Church contains two specific admonition, that conveys even to us in this generation’s churches’ congregation.  Highlighted are the following:

• Examine Yourselves in the Faith

V.5 “Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves.”

What we should examine?

1. The Importance of Accountability (vv. 1–2)

Paul emphasizes that every matter must be

established by sufficient witnesses and that sin must be addressed with seriousness. God desires His people to walk in truth, repentance, and righteousness.

2. The Integrated Power of Christ in Believers (vv. 3–4)

Though Christ was crucified in weakness, He lives by the power of God. Likewise, believers may experience human weakness, but God's power sustains them to live and serve according to His will.

Distress, discouragement, difficulties, and disappointment happens while we’re here in this earth; that sometimes we believers experienced, leading us to downheartedness. Let us always be reminded, that the power of CHRIST is within us through His Holy Spirit;  to strengthen us whenever these struggles arises.

3. The Importance and Necessity of Self-Examination (vv. 5–6)

We believers must examine themselves to determine whether they are truly walking in the faith and allowing Christ to work within them. Our confidence must rest not merely in our profession of faith, but in a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.

4. The ineradicable  Evidence of a Righteous Life (v. 7)

Paul's desire was not to prove his own authority but that the believers would do what was right. True spiritual maturity is demonstrated through honest conduct and obedience to God, rather than the desire for human approval.

Motivational Insight

Self-examination keeps our hearts accountable to God's truth. Our weaknesses remind us of our need for His power, while our daily conduct visibly reveals the sincerity of our faith. Let us examine our hearts, allow Christ to work within us, and choose what is honest and right—not for human recognition, but for the glory of God.

Meditational Nugget: A genuine faith is not merely professed by our lips; it is examined in our hearts and manifested through a life of righteousness.

🙏 May we continually examine ourselves in the light of God's Word and live by the power of Christ within us.

2 Corinthians 13:8-14 KJV

8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.

9 For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.

10 Therefore I write these things being absent, lest being present I should use sharpness, according to the power which the Lord hath given me to edification, and not to destruction.

11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

12 Greet one another with an holy kiss.

13 All the saints salute you.

14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.

• Ensure the Growth in Truth, Unity, and God’s Grace

We must ensure the following; counting these things as the essence for our growth:

1. Stand for the Truth (v. 8)

“For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.”

God's truth must remain our foundation.

As believers, we must uphold His Word and live according to its principles, regardless of opposition.

2. Seek Spiritual Maturity (vv. 9–10)

Paul desired the spiritual perfection, or maturity, of the Corinthian believers.

God-given authority is intended for edification, not destruction. Therefore, correction should lead people toward restoration, growth, and a stronger faith in Christ.

3. Submitting ourselves to the Truth in Love  to Live in Unity and Peace (vv. 11–13)

Paul exhorts the brethren to be mature, comforted, united in mind, and peaceful in spirit. Christian fellowship must be characterized by genuine love, mutual respect, and holiness.

4. Strengthening each other as we Abide in the Fellowship of the Triune God (v. 14)

Paul closes with the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost. These divine blessings sustain believers in their Christian walk and strengthen their fellowship with God and one another.

Conclusive Lesson

The Christian life is a continual journey of standing firmly in God's truth, growing toward spiritual maturity, and maintaining unity and peace with fellow believers.

Our words and actions should build up others rather than tear them down. Through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, we are equipped to live faithfully and serve for God's glory.

As for our Personal Application, Let us examine our hearts daily:

• Are we standing for the truth?

• Are we looking forward to strengthening each other and helping each other to grow in faith?

• Are we in the same mind in promoting peace and unity in the body of Christ?

May this motivate us:

A life daily examined, established in God's truth, perfected through spiritual growth, united in Christian love, and sustained by divine grace brings glory to God.

Have a blessed day ahead🙏❤
