[8] Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?
[9] And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.
[10] Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him, Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.
Words to ponder:
The Presence of The LORD
This book of Jonah portrayed a picture of a servant of GOD; whom The LORD called to preach and teach certain group of people. His disobedience cause a great tumult affecting other people’s live. Nevertheless, after he confess his error, the people of the ship turns to GOD and prayed for forgiveness, acknowledging His power and might.
This depicts also that the love of GOD is not limited only to those whom He had chosen to be his people; but He wanted also that His words be heard by the erring one; before His judgement be outpoured.
The progression of cause and effect:
1. The Anointing of GOD to Jonah to preach to the land of Nineveh. v. 1,2
2. The Aberration of Jonah’s mind: his disobedience to GOD’s instruction. v.3
3. The immediate Application of GOD’s redirection. v.4
4. The Affected people in troublous time causing them to be aware of the danger. v 5-8
5. The Abdication of Jonah from his resistance to GOD’s instruction. v. 9
6. The Affliction of the affected people; yielding themselves to kneel down in prayer. v. 10-11
7. The Atonement of Jonah; admitting his disobedience and finally submitting himself to the will of GOD. He knows that even in death He cannot scape to face His GOD. v.12
8. The Accepting heart of the people after hearing Jonah’s confession and repentance; yielding themselves to the One and Only GOD who is Master of everything. v.13-15
9. The Accommodating love of GOD for Jonah: His erring servant. He spent great time talking and pleading to GOD in the whale’s belly. v. 17
The presence of The LORD is everywhere. It can be seen the moment we open our eyes in the morning throughout the day. He is there when we are sleeping, and even in the brink of death, He is still there; keeps on calling sinners to repent.
No one is inexcusable.
All human being has in them, once or more than once calling for repentance from GOD.
Do not wait things to become worst before we yield down and answer GOD’s calling. Otherwise, if we neglect His words, then our lives will be more miserable than what we are now experiencing. Because death is not the end of everything; there is an after physical death judgement for all soul.
Therefore, better to commune with GOD.
• Admit you are a stubborn sinner. Romans 3:23 KJV
[23] For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
• Accept GOD’s gift of salvation. Romans 6:23 KJV
[23] For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
• Allow The LORD to lead you into the path He prepare for all believers by faithfully listening to His words. Romans 10:13,17 KJV
[13] For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. [17] So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Let the presence of The LORD be magnified in our lives today.
Be saved and be blessed everyday and ever.
Have a pleasant day ahead.
Jonah 1:1-17 KJV
[1] Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, [2] Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. [3] But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. [4] But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. [5] Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep. [6] So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not. [7] And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah. [11] Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous. [12] And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you. [13] Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them. [14] Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee. [15] So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging. [16] Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows. [17] Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.
