Lesson: The Day of His Coming (A Refiner’s Fire)
“1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saiththe Lord of hosts.
2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.”
The day of the coming of The Messiah was prophesied; as we have studied in the book written by the Prophet Zechariah, and even from other prophets written in the entire Old Testament Scripture. And while we are just looking back on it by thoroughly reading and studying the bible, by hearing and hearing about it in the preaching and sermons, it may seem so easy for us to just accept and believe what the scripture said. But to some it is but a myth.
Nonetheless, and because of the accuracy the prophesy, the boldness of the prophets who wrote these must-to-come plan of GOD, and the consistency of GOD’s redeeming love, it is as if we are just watching the even that happened before, which for generations afterwards became beneficial to us all.
GOD never intended that His plan be fully hid to mankind; for even in Genesis the day of His coming were mentioned: among them were in Genesis 3:15, 49:10KJV, Numbers 24:17,19, Psalm 2:7-9KJV ..and if we will dedicate ourselves in reading and meditating the whole scripture, we can find that in every book, there were the prophetical message from GOD about His coming.
From this book of Malachi, we considered Malachi is significant for GOD’s commandment with challenge; givenfor His people Israel about giving and tithing. v.10; that we missed some of the points of what the book of Malachi is all about.
In chapter 1- it is all about the sins of the priesthood: polluted bread as sacrifice and contemptible table of the LORD: v6-8
In chapter 2- the warning to the priesthood. v1-9, the warning to the unfaithful:v10-16,
In Chapter 3 :
The day of His coming, is the first coming of the LORD, as we have studied here in the book of Malachi. It already happened more than two thousand years ago, celebrated by the whole world; preach many times in the pulpit and has been observed by many as the birth in a manger of the Messiah; His life on earth was recorded in four gospels of the New Testament, so as His death on the cross, His burial and resurrection. That even our calendar date of today is based upon His first coming, from whence the grace of GOD was bountifully given to mankind. We havein our hand the infallible reference: the King James Bible.
But the second coming of The LORD is not as the first; for The LORD will come in His glory; that the unbelieving Jews and the entire world may know and see.
Nevertheless, before that day has to come, we true believers of CHRIST will be taken first from this world. It is the glorious appearing of The LORD for us true believers of CHRIST; that event we are looking forward to; the blessed hope of our salvation we are waiting. The very reason why we have to be under subjection everyday through the Refiner’s Fire, which purge us from uncleanness, fleshly lusts, obstinacy, pride and the sin that so easily beset us.
As saved believers of CHRIST, Our LORD and Loving Savior, Let this keep us reminded everyday:
HEBREWS 12KJV
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
TITUS 2 KJV
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
Have a Blessed day ahead.
Malachi 3KJV
1 Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saiththe Lord of hosts.
2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap:
3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
4 Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the Lord of hosts.
6 For I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
7 Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept them. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the Lord of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
8 Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
9 Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
11 And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the Lord of hosts.
12 And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts.
13 Your words have been stout against me, saith the Lord. Yet ye say, What have we spoken so much against thee?
14 Ye have said, It is vain to serve God: and what profit is it that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the Lord of hosts?
15 And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, they that tempt God are even delivered.
16 Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name.
17 And they shall be mine, saith the Lord of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
18 Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
