Great Light -Matthew 4

 October 12, 2023- Morning Bible Reading and Meditation- Matthew 4 KJV

FOR Mithcah Bible Baptist Church-Bahrain Devotional Bible Study-Thursday Group

“16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Words to ponder: Great Light

The Son of GOD came down to earth from heaven.

It was confirmed by GOD the Father from heaven; testified not only by John the Baptist, but even the Devil Satan himself. v.3

Matthew3KJV

“16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:

17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

He needed to be born of a woman to become human as we are; have to go through the process of humanhood:

tempted by the devil

⮚ in his most needful situation- fleshly need v3, fasting for forty days and forty nights will surely make Jesus body starve. Yet He firmly stand with what is written.

 provoked to show off His power-v 6, tempted to show off His power in the eyes of the devil is going against the nature of GOD His Father.

⮚ to gain the world without labor v8,9, choosing to want the cares and concerns of this world is idolatrous worship. Hence placing the wolrd to worship than worshipping GOD The Father.

thrived in the midst of adversities v.12-16, Luke 19:45-48, Luke 20:1-8

JESUS CHRIST is The Great Light who came to shines brighter for these reasons:

to teach the proud humility v.17Proverbs 16:18 KJV

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

 to try the faith of many v.18-21 , 2 Timothy 2 KJV

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;

18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

 to test us and give us lesson about humanityv.23-25

Not all people, during that days, follow The LORD because they believe in what He is preaching and the miracles which have been performed; but because they receive something which is beneficial for them. This is the nature of humanity. Desires are often the cause of wars and discord. Even in our present time, people only call upon GOD when they are in their most needy situation. We call GOD in prayer because we need something for our own goodness. If only we come to realize that what we need is that Great Light which is the source of understanding, even wisdom to discern, life will be more at peace and easier because we are contented. As what what said in the book of James 4 KJV:

“1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members?

Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.

Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?

But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.

As we therefore live in this world full of dissatisfaction, let each one of us live a life of contentment and total reliance upon The LORD. For these things that was written in this chapter are for our learnings; that as the LORD in His fleshly nature has overcome the temptation of the devil, we also are able to be victorious over temptations. As what it ewaswritten by Apostle Paul:

1 CORINTHIANS 10KJV

“1Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Let us keep on looking unto that Great Light who is able to light our path may it be in the day or in the night.

Stay faithful, keep on working for the glory of GOD and be contented in everything HE has given us.

Good morning.

Matthew 4KJV

1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedethout of the mouth of God.

Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

11 Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him.

12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;

13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:

14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;

16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.

18 And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

20 And they straightway left their nets, and followed him.

21 And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.

22 And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.

23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

25 And there followed him great multitudes of people from Galilee, and from Decapolis, and from Jerusalem, and from Judaea, and from beyond Jordan.
