For Mithcah Bible Baptist Church Morning Devotional Bible Study- October 3, 2023

1 The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Words to ponder: The Generation of JESUS CHRIST

According to some bible scholars, this book of Matthew is written to make known to the Jews the Kingship of Jesus Christ.

Matthew, a tax collector who left his job and follow the LORD JESUS CHRIST, to become one among His apostles.

Studying about The LORD’s generation, according to Matthew, we can spot a difference from the book of Luke 3:

23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

24 Which was the son of Matthat, which was the son of Levi, which was the son of Melchi, which was the son of Janna, which was the son of Joseph,

In Matthew 1KJV

15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;

16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

Is the bible wrong or in error because of this?

No. For if we are to carefully study both the gospel, there is a difference on how they presented the genealogy of JESUS.

In Matthew, the introduction about JESUS: He is the son of David. Matthew 1:1KJV

➢ Signifying His Kingship

In the book of Luke:

He was introduced first by the angel to Mary before her conception:

• As Mary’s son

26 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

27 To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

29 And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

31 And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.

• As the son of Joseph:

23 And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli,

➢ Signifying His Humanity

We have to know that the book of Luke, which is intended to record the humanity of JESUS, was written according to the Jewish culture; let’s take note of these two things:

• JESUS (as was supposed) the son of Joseph – JESUS is not the biological son of Joseph; he is JESUS poster father; because JESUS’ Father is GOD
• Joseph which was the son of Heli- we can conclude that Joseph is not the biological son of Heli, but Mary his wife

While in Matthew, instead of using the term “son”, or “the father of “, “begat” was used; meaning breed, or bring about. In a much easier way to understand “from the seed of’.

Joseph “knew not” or being intimate with Mary until she had given birth to JESUS. It is clearly written:

19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.

20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.

21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.

22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

24 Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:

25 And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name Jesus.

Let us take note clearly about these important matters

➢ God carry out His Plan in His perfect time. In Mary and Joseph’s time.
➢ God chooses people who are pure and just. Luke 1:27, Matthew 1:19
• Marry was a virgin
• Joseph was a just man
➢ God is consistent to His promise to David ..Psalm 89:34-37,  as how it was written in Psalm 2;1-12KJV
➢ God’s compassionate love and promise of protection is proclaimed by David. Psalms 23.

The generation of The LORD JESUS CHRIST is purposefully written for us to know and trust the Mighty King; who is about to continue His purpose of physical reigning from Jerusalem the kingdoms of this earth. The One whom the bible introduces to usas our Redeemer; and that after we accepted, believed and called upon, we should also let others know that this is the truth about HIM; The loving LORD and Savior JESUS CHRIST.

Let everyone knows that HE Saves, He Secures, and He Sustains all who come call and cleave unto Him.

Let His Name be known to all and be magnified always and ever.

Good morning.

Matthew 1

King James Version

The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Abraham begat Isaac; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat Judas and his brethren;

And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;

And Aram begat Aminadab; and Aminadab begat Naasson; and Naasson begat Salmon;

And Salmon begat Booz of Rachab; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

And Jesse begat David the king; and David the king begat Solomon of her that had been the wife of Urias;

And Solomon begat Roboam; and Roboam begat Abia; and Abia begat Asa;

And Asa begat Josaphat; and Josaphat begat Joram; and Jorambegat Ozias;

And Ozias begat Joatham; and Joatham begat Achaz; and Achaz begat Ezekias;

10 And Ezekias begat Manasses; and Manasses begat Amon; and Amon begat Josias;

11 And Josias begat Jechonias and his brethren, about the time they were carried away to Babylon:

12 And after they were brought to Babylon, Jechonias begat Salathiel; and Salathiel begat Zorobabel;

13 And Zorobabel begat Abiud; and Abiud begat Eliakim; and Eliakim begat Azor;

14 And Azor begat Sadoc; and Sadoc begat Achim; and Achim begat Eliud;

15 And Eliud begat Eleazar; and Eleazar begat Matthan; and Matthan begat Jacob;

16 And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.

17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen generations.

18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
