The God of All Comfort

2 Corinthians 1:1-7 KJV -

1  Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia:

2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;

4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation.

7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

• God comforts His children in their afflictions so that they may comfort others.

1. Our calling: our calling comes from God’s will (vv. 1–2).

Paul reminds believers that their ministry and salvation are founded upon God’s grace and peace, not upon human merit.

2. Our Comfort: God is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort (vv. 3–4).

In every trial, sorrow, and hardship, God provides strength and consolation to His people. The comfort we receive from Him equips us to encourage others who suffer.

3. Our Cares even our Suffering for Christ has a purpose (v. 5).

Just as believers share in Christ’s sufferings, they also partake of His abundant comfort. Trials deepen our faith and draw us closer to the Lord.

4. Our Calamity and Afflictions can become a ministry to others (vv. 6–7).

God uses our experiences of pain and deliverance to strengthen and encourage fellow believers, giving them hope and endurance.

God never wastes our suffering. The trials we endure are opportunities to experience His comfort and to become instruments of encouragement to others. Those who trust in Christ can be assured that His grace is sufficient in every affliction.

Key verse: “Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble…” (2 Corinthians 1:4 KJV).

Even when our physical bodies grow weary, God’s Word remains our source of strength, wisdom, and comfort. Your faithfulness in studying and sharing the Scriptures despite difficulties is a testimony of God’s grace working in your life.

May the Lord continue to grant us:

• Faith in times of fear and pain.

• Strength in times of weakness.

• Wisdom andJoy in studying His Word.

• Peace in every circumstance.

The seeds we plant through every lesson and devotion may encourage hearts that we may never even meet. Continue steadfastly, knowing that our labor in the Lord is never in vain.

2 Corinthians 1:8-20 KJV 

8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:

10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;

11 Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.

12 For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

13 For we write none other things unto you, than what ye read or acknowledge; and I trust ye shall acknowledge even to the end;

14 As also ye have acknowledged us in part, that we are your rejoicing, even as ye also are ours in the day of the Lord Jesus.

15 And in this confidence I was minded to come unto you before, that ye might have a second benefit;

16 And to pass by you into Macedonia, and to come again out of Macedonia unto you, and of you to be brought on my way toward Judaea.

• God Cares,and He is pleased in our Faithfulness in Times of Trouble.

1. Our Dependency: Trials teach us to depend on God (vv. 8–9).

Paul experienced suffering beyond his own strength, even despairing of life itself. God sometimes allows difficulties so that we will stop trusting in ourselves and learn to rely completely on Him, who has power even over death.

2. Our Deliverer: God is our Deliverer- past, present, and future (v. 10).

Paul testified that God delivered, doth deliver, and will yet deliver. The Lord’s faithfulness is constant; He has helped us before, helps us now, and will continue to help us in the days ahead.

3.Our  Defense: The corporate prayers of believers strengthen and protects laborers for the work of God (v. 11).

Paul acknowledged that the prayers of the saints played an important role in his ministry. Prayer unites believers, a strong defense to fight the enemies, and brings thanksgiving to God for His blessings and protection.

4. Our Designation: A servant of God must walk in sincerity and grace (vv. 12–14).

Paul rejoiced in having a clear conscience, living with simplicity and godly sincerity rather than worldly wisdom. A faithful Christian life is marked by integrity, humility, and dependence on God’s grace.

5. Our Destiny: God’s promises are always certain (vv. 15–20).

Human plans may change, but God’s promises never fail. In Christ, all the promises of God are “Yea” and “Amen.” Our confidence rests not in people or circumstances, but in the unchanging faithfulness of God.

Thought to ponder:

Hardships are not meant to destroy our faith but to deepen our trust in God. The Lord who delivered Paul is the same Lord who sustains His children today. When our strength fails, God’s promises remain sure and steadfast.

2 Corinthians 1:17-24 KJV - 

17 When I therefore was thus minded, did I use lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be yea yea, and nay nay?

18 But as God is true, our word toward you was not yea and nay.

19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea.

20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

23 Moreover I call God for a record upon my soul, that to spare you I came not as yet unto Corinth.

24 Not for that we have dominion over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for by faith ye stand.

• God Commends; His Promises Are Sure, more to His Servants who Build Faith, Not Control It.

1. Our Goal: We believers must walk in sincerity, not in the flesh (vv. 17–18).

Paul defended his integrity, showing that God’s servants should be faithful and consistent in their words and actions, not guided by human wisdom or selfish motives.

2. Our Guide: Jesus Christ is the perfect “Yes” to God’s promises, to Whom we should follow.  (vv. 19–20).

In Christ, every promise of God finds its fulfillment. God’s Word is certain, trustworthy, and unchanging, giving believers confidence and hope.

3. Our Guarantee: God establishes, anoints, and seals His children (vv. 21–22)

The Lord strengthens believers in Christ, anoints them for His purpose, and gives the Holy Spirit as a seal and guarantee of their eternal inheritance.

4. Our Greatest Challenge: Spiritual leaders are servants of joy, not masters of faith (vv. 23–24).

Paul reminds us that true Christian leadership does not dominate people but lovingly encourages them to stand firm in faith and to grow in the joy of the Lord.

Closing thoughts:

Because God’s promises are certain in Christ, believers can stand firmly in faith, assured that the Holy Spirit dwells within them and that faithful servants of God are called to strengthen and encourage, not to control.

Let us continue to be strengthen by the hope of our calling, be the joyful servants of our Loving Heavenly Father: The GOD of all Comfort,  in CHRIST JESUS our LORD. That the HOLY SPIRIT take full control of our being. Encouraging one another by our unwavering faith and steadfastness. Until that day when our Savior will come to take us home with Him. 

“For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” (2 Corinthians 1:20 KJV)
