[15] I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,) 

[16] That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth. “

[1] Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 

[2] Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 

[3] And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. 

[4] And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me. 

[5] Now I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia. 

[6] And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go. 

[7] For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit. 

[8] But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.

• A Faithful Christian Lives with Generosity, Wisdom, and Dependence on God’s Will.

Paul closes this epistle with practical instructions that reveal how genuine faith is lived out in everyday service.

1. Giving of a true Christian should be regular, willing, and proportional (vv. 1–4).

Believers were encouraged to set aside an offering on the first day of the week according to how God had prospered them. This teaches that giving is an act of worship, gratitude, accordingly proportion, and love for fellow believers, not something done reluctantly, a petty portion from what is left, or given under pressure.

2. God’s work should be carried out with integrity and accountability (vv. 3–4).

Paul ensured that trustworthy men would handle the gifts for the needy saints in Jerusalem. This reminds us that God’s resources must always be managed honestly and transparently, appropriated for the prioritized needs. 

3. God’s will must always be the purpose of our plans and goals (vv. 5–8).

Although Paul carefully planned his travels and ministry, he humbly added, “if the Lord permit” (v. 7). He understood that while we make plans, God directs our steps. Patience and obedience are marks of faithful service.

A mature Christian demonstrates faith through generous giving, faithful stewardship, wise planning, and complete dependence on God’s will. We should faithfully use what God has entrusted to us, serve others with integrity, and remember that every plan succeeds only as the Lord permits. 

Considering that everything we have in our hands comes from  GOD’s faithfulness to us as His beloved children. He counts us to be faithful in generous giving as well, fair in our service to Him, and followers of our LORD in our every way. 

Let this be our motivation: 

Give generously and cheerfully (vv. 1–2)

God’s work must be handled honestly (vv. 3–4)

Gracefully serve and Plan wisely (vv. 5–6)

Gratitude in submitting everything to God’s will (vv. 7–8)

9 For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.

10 Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do.

11 Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.

12 As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.

13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.

14 Let all your things be done with charity.

• A Faithful Servant is lead to A Great Door, a Strong Faith, and a Loving Heart

Paul saw that God had opened “a great door and effectual” for ministry, yet there were also many adversaries. This teaches us that opportunities from God may come with difficulties and opposition. The presence of challenges does not always mean we are outside God’s will; sometimes, it confirms that the work is important and fruitful.

Paul also encouraged the believers to welcome Timothy, respect his service, and support him in doing the Lord’s work. Concerning Apollos, Paul showed patience and respect for God’s timing. Not every servant of God will come or serve according to our schedule, but each must follow the Lord’s leading.

In verses 13–14, Paul gave powerful instructions for Christian living:

To Watch — Be spiritually alert.

To Willfully Stand fast in the faith — Remain firm in God’s truth.

To win others  to Be strong — Face trials with courage through the Lord.

To work  diligently and Do all with charity — Let love guide every word, action, and decision.

Life Application

When God opens a door, do not be discouraged by opposition. Stay watchful, remain faithful, be spiritually strong, and continue serving with love. 

Strength without love may become harsh and hurtful, but love makes our service pleasing and fruitful before God.

 Thoughts to ponder:

• Christ GOD’s Son our LORD opens the door, 

• committed faith keeps us standing, 

• courage helps us endure, and 

• charity makes our service shine.

1 Corinthians 16:15-24 KJV

[15] I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,) 

[16] That ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth. 

[17] I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied. 

[18] For they have refreshed my spirit and yours: therefore acknowledge ye them that are suchp. 

[19] The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. 

[20] All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss. 

[21] The salutation of me Paul with mine own hand. 

[22] If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maranatha. 

[23] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

• A Follower’s Christ-Centered Life Leaves a Christ-Centered Legacy”

1. Faithful servants deserve honor and support (vv. 15–18).

The household of Stephanas devoted themselves to serving God’s people. Paul exhorts believers to submit to and appreciate those who faithfully labor in the ministry. God values humble, sacrificial service more than public recognition.

2. Fellowship of true Christian believers strengthens the Church (vv. 19–20).

Greetings from Aquila, Priscilla, and the churches remind us that believers are one family in Christ. Genuine love, unity, and warm fellowship are marks of a healthy church and a powerful testimony to the world.

3. Faith and Love for Christ is the true test of faith (v. 22).

Paul ends with a solemn warning: those who reject the Lord place themselves under judgment. “Anathema” be banned and cursed “Maranatha” (“Our Lord comes”). This reminds every believer to live in readiness for Christ’s return, loving and serving Him faithfully.

4. Final blessing are Grace and love for all of the LORD CHRIST JESUS’ believer s(vv. 23–24).

Paul closes not with rebuke but with grace and love. Though he corrected the Corinthians throughout the letter, his deepest desire was that they would remain in the grace of the Lord Jesus and experience Christlike love toward one another.

Closing Application

The final chapter of 1 Corinthians teaches that a mature Christian life is marked by faithful service, respect for godly leaders, loving fellowship, steadfast love for Jesus Christ, and dependence on His grace. As we await the Lord’s return, may our lives refresh others, strengthen the church, and glorify Christ in all we do.

“The greatest legacy a believer can leave is a life devoted to Christ, lived in grace, expressed through love, and faithful in service until He comes.”
