December 4, 2018-Thursday-#580-Daily Morning Bible Reading and Meditation- Psalm 123 KJV
***...so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.***
[1] Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens.
[2] Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us.
[3] Have mercy upon us, O Lord , have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.
[4] Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
Words to ponder for today:
So Our Eyes Wait Upon The LORD Our GOD
“[4] Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.”
A Song of degrees. We are climbing.
As we step higher, we saw everything, lamenting our troublesome surroundings, and the next, we can’t do anything, but to lift our eyes to the hills where our faith is secured and rested in an assured security; from this we rose to seek our delightedness in the house of the LORD; but here we look to the LORD our GOD himself; and this is the highest ascent of all by many degrees.
It is only in the time of grievous troubles, oppressions and downheartedness even in great hopelessness that our eyes have nothing but to look above in the hills of faith , and found confidence and deliverance unto JESUS CHRIST our Lively Hope; above JEHOVA's footstool on earth, even to his throne in the heavenly place.
This short psalm are compacted with messages for us to meditate upon:
The prayer of devotion V. 1
The prayer of dependence and V. 2 .
The prayer of despondence V.3
The prayer of desperation and the distraught in heart v.4
Henceforth, this psalm teaches us perseverance and patience of the saints: "Until he have mercy upon us."
As our eyes are open wide in every events, even the deterioration of our surroundings, we have here the clear two messages that we should ponder: The Eyes and no eyes.
EYES.
* Our open eyes should be looking upward and prayerfully put our trust and confidence unto GOD who is worthy of our reverence, worship, watchfulness, obedience.
* Our thoughts and hearts should be Inwardly pure with a contrite spirit, producing a cry for mercy.
No EYES.
(a) No sight of the excellence of the godly.
(b) No sense of their own danger: "at ease."
(c) No simplicity and humility before God: "proud."
(d) No soundness in heart nor uplifted eyes in hope, prayer, expectation.
The eyes of faith acknowledge need of uplifting.
The eyes that see best upward have always something to see upward.
Let us look up, and so turn our eyes from too much introspection and retrospection. For distraction from focusing our eyes in The LORD, the source of our blessed hope, are spending more of our sight in the cares and concerns of this world.
Let us then turn our worldly language into the voice of Adoration and our voice be hear by HIM, "Thou that dwellest in the heavens."
Let The LORD of our salvation hears our language of Confession, our supplication and helplessness, for most assuredly, He will not sleep nor slumber when in our time of deepest need is heard though our devotion, diligent whisper of prayers and undivided faith in Him.
It is written for our admonition in Hebrews 12:2 KJV
[2] Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
Look unto HIM Who has the power to deliver.
Good morning!
Psalm 123:1-4 KJV
[1] Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. [2] Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the Lord our God, until that he have mercy upon us. [3] Have mercy upon us, O Lord , have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. [4] Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.
